Student ResearchSince arriving at UCF in 2014 I have been very active in promoting student research. This has taken many forms, including supervising honors and masters theses and doctoral dissertations, helping students navigate the process for applying for various internal or external opportunities, hiring student research assistants, and co-authoring. This page is a modest effort to advertise some of these opportunities.
Political Instability LabI am involved in ongoing data collection. This primarily involves improving a dataset on coups d'etat, but includes other potentially important events such as army mutinies and constitutional crises. Though my own research tends to focus on Africa and the Middle East, my data projects explore the world as a whole
Students involved in my research have been included as co-authors on papers published in outlets including African Affairs, Africa Spectrum, African Security, Conflict Management and Peace Science, Democratization, Foreign Policy Analysis, Journal of Global Security Studies, and Studies in Comparative International Development.
